The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Alright, so I'm pretty dead-set on this idea of mine, and I'm not going to let the fact that I'm musically retarded stand in my way of doing something with it.

I played the clarinet for 6 years in middle and high school and was pretty damn good at it; you'd think I'd have picked up on something, what with all the music sheets I've read and played in my life.

Nope.

I'm like that artist who can only copy photographs, but with music. Can't make anything original.

Anyway.

If I throw together a couple of mock storyboards, would anybody out there be interested in composing some music to go along with them as a test? Granted, these are just samples, and they won't be used.

Your music needs to be able to contribute to the mood of the story and help tell it, as the music is going to be the only kind of stimulation there is, aside from the animation itself.

And um. If I end up hiring you, I can't pay you. Broke college student, sorry. Figure I should say that right now.

ONE DAY, payment might be a thing, depending on how successful this thing I'm doing is. And if it is successful you can bet your ass you'll be paid. But for now, I'm sorry, I just can't.

I don't feel right not letting people know that.

BUT YEAH.

There's apparently a lot of musically talented folks out there on the internet. Anybody wanna help me out? Send me a note and when I get a chance I'll throw something up for you to try your hand at enhancing with your skills.

I write music. Granted I generally do just accoustic vocal/guitar stuff, I have done keyboards and other instrumental stuff for something unobtrusive as backgound for my own stuff. And I've dabbled in shitty techno just for shits n' gigs.
I couldn't tell you if I'm good or not though, people have told me I am but you can never believe such things with music.
